(Hiljaiset+Liinaharja Hardcore+Coldzitz) Originally founded in 1983, Abortion 13, in its first year of life, made childhood memories with the co-EP Sunday School and disbanded. The break was short but blunt, as befits a hardcore band. After a 25-year hiatus, original members Tapsa and Matti reunited the band in 2009. Now the band started to work more determinedly and already in the first year of operation a new EP was released. Since then, the band has played a lot of gigs and released a steady stream of albums. Now we have a new LP, which is more varied than the previous production. The songs on the album were written during the pandemic, which is reflected in some of the lyrics. The lyrics also contain clever references to punk’s earlier lyrics (such as System works and Mari no pogo) and other ways of looking at things in a nice oblique way. The songs are mostly less than two minutes long, but Kulkutaud has a length of 3’10” – that’s the length of a prog for hardcore. The rhythm section keeps the HC-thing going and the guitars buzz as abruptly as they should. In spite of the anger, there is a groove of its own. Maybe it’s because the number of gigs was limited and the band had time to polish the songs before going into the studio. The tight soundscape for the album was created by Tyko Tuulivaara (recording) and the legendary Pentti Dassum (mixing and vinyl mastering).
