(Trottel) The Illustrated Hungarian Punk Encyclopedia 1975–1990 is a monumental, comprehensive publication that provides a detailed and vivid account of the first decade and a half of the Hungarian punk movement. This 448-page volume presents the history of the Hungarian punk scene from its beginnings until 1990. The book summarizes the brief history of more than 500 bands, presenting those groups that played music close to the genre or definable as punk during the given period.
The authors, Béla Ács-Tari and Gyula Edvi Balázs, conducted more than fifteen years of research, processing interviews, archival sources, and newspaper articles in order to provide the most complete picture possible of this grassroots underground music culture. Hundreds of illustrations, photos, and contemporary documents help the reader to immerse themselves visually in the era.
The Hungarian punk scene’s lesser-known and more legendary figures are both featured, whether they are local bands or bands that later became famous. The book is not just a list: life stories, humorous anecdotes, interesting facts, and details that capture the spirit of the era make it a truly enjoyable read. The Illustrated Hungarian Punk Encyclopedia 1975–1990 is not just an encyclopedia or music database: it is a documentary book full of entertaining stories, humor, and visual experiences that authentically and thoroughly explores the early years of the Hungarian punk movement.
