(Phobia) Two equally ferocious d-beat bands from Östergötland County in southern Sweden combine to deliver an intriguingly contrasting split album. Varoitus are following up their excellent 2023 full-length, Ikuinen Sota (Eternal War), and continue to unleash a rampaging onslaught of metallic d-beat.  Relentless waves of crust-infused riffage and rabid Finnish vocals are leavened with blues fuelled solos, blast beat eruptions, and crunching breakdowns, as perfectly captured by the final of their five bruising tracks, M.T.L.A. DSM-5 share a penchant for howling solos, which they unfurl with an admirable reckless abandon.  However, they place greater emphasis on rapid fire delivery and a barrelling raucous intensity to underpin the rasping English language vocals.  They too deliver five tracks, Tourist proving a particular highlight.
